Repair project begins on 30 Lindsay Heights homes

Volunteers providing extensive work through Block Build MKE

Four nonprofits began a two-day, $150,000 repair project on 30 homes in Milwaukee’s Lindsay Heights neighborhood Friday called Block Build MKE 2016.Repair-tools-shutterstock-129779012-2016-03-11

The event is an extension of Rebuilding Together Greater Milwaukee’s year-round home repair program.

The four groups — RTGM, Walnut Way Conservation Corp., the Social Development Commission and Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin — with volunteers from more than a dozen local businesses and organizations, will make extensive repairs and complete beautification work to homes on North 17th and North 18th streets between West North Avenue and West Lloyd Street on Friday and Saturday.

“We are grateful to have wonderful, committed partners that have helped make this project a reality for the Walnut Way neighborhood,” said Lynnea Katz-Petted, chief executive officer of RTGM, in a statement.

The event will end with a block party that includes food and live music on Saturday.

In addition to the repairs, the Social Development Commission will provide lending assistance that will help homeowners weatherize their homes and secure resources for more repairs. Feeding America is donating lunch to volunteers throughout the weekend and will provide food boxes to neighborhood homeowners.
