Smart Manufacturing conference to be held in Milwaukee

Harley-Davidson to serve as co-host for 4th annual event

The fourth annual Smart Manufacturing Summit will be held April 6-7 in Milwaukee with Harley-Davidson serving as co-host, Chief Executive magazine announced Tuesday.Manufacturing plant

“Wisconsin has a strong concentration of both makers and users of smart manufacturing technology, as well as a proven history of adoption among Wisconsin’s major manufacturers,” Chief Executive editor in chief J.P. Donlon said.

Previous conferences have been held in Indianapolis with Cummins, Detroit with Ford and Peoria, Ill. with Caterpillar.

Harley chief executive officer Matt Levatich will deliver the keynote address and his executive team will also share strategies. The conference will focus on lean manufacturing in the digital age, the impact of the Internet of Things, recruiting and managing talent, smart design for shorter time-to-market and how to evaluate and integrate digital technology into current operations.

Additional participants include Barnes Group president and CEO Patrick Dempsey, MillerCoors chief integrated supply chain officer Fernando Palacios, Joy Global president and CEO Ted Doheny, Snap-On chairman and CEO Nicholas T. Pinchuk, Briggs & Stratton president and CEO Todd Teske, GE Healthcare vice president of global supply chain and advanced manufacturing Chuck Nugent, Newport News Shipbuilding president Matthew J. Mulherin, the Design and Manufacturing Innovation Institute (DMDII) executive director Dean Bartles, and The Additive Manufacturing Council president Rick Smith.

Attendees will have the opportunity to tour Harley-Davidson’s Pilgrim Road operations, GE Healthcare’s Electric Avenue facility, the Harley-Davison Museum and a guided beer tasting at the Miller Inn and historic Miller Caves.
