Focus on Energy offering free efficiency program for homes

LightbulbFocus on Energy is making its way through the Milwaukee area with a free service for residents to help reduce energy bills up to 10 percent.

The program is called The Express Energy Efficiency Program and it’s available to homeowners and renters across the state of participating Wisconsin utilities.

Letters are being sent to residents when Focus on Energy, Wisconsin utilities’ statewide program for energy efficiency and renewable energy, is in their neighborhood.

  • Energy Star qualified light bulbs, up to 10 CFLs and 2 LEDs
  •  High-efficiency showerheads
  • Water-Saving kitchen and bathroom faucet aerators
  • Insulation of hot and cold water pipes
  • Water heater thermostat setback assistance

The total package is worth about $100 and will save people between $80-$100 per year on their WE Energies bills, said Dan Guse, senior operations manager for the Express Energy Efficiency Program.

“We’ve made these things available for people to pick up, or sent them out, but we’re all human – we have good intentions but sometimes the follow through isn’t there,” Guse said. “No matter how efficient a light bulb is, if it’s not installed it’s not saving any energy.”

Since starting the Express Energy Efficiency Program in April 2012, 70,000 Wisconsin households have been served, Guse said.
