UHC’s annual ranking, called the Quality and Accountability Study, evaluates institutions’ quality and safety in a variety of patient care tasks. Among the factors considered were the national Institute of Medicine’s six domains of care: safety, timeliness, effectiveness, efficiency, equity and patient-centeredness.

The top ranked academic medical center in the study was New York University’s Langone Medical Center; followed by Rush University Medical Center in Chicago; Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, Minn. in third; and Emory University Hospital in Atlanta in fourth place, followed by Froedtert.

“Quality is at the core of who we are and drives what we do,” said Cathy Buck, president of Froedtert Hospital. “Our solid ranking among these top academic medical centers is a testament to the staff and physicians across our organization who strive for excellence every day.”
