The Zilber Family Foundation recently distributed $1 million in grants among area nonprofit organizations.
The grants align with the foundation’s focus on serving basic needs, reinforcing personal safety, opening up access to social and economic opportunity and improving quality of life in Milwaukee neighborhoods.
Among specific grants:
*ACTS Housing has been awarded a $200,000 grant toward its mission to give low-income families in central city neighborhoods the opportunity to secure affordable, sustainable homeownership.
*Community Warehouse, Inc. has received a $150,000 grant toward its work enhancing conditions in struggling neighborhoods and help unemployed individuals find viable career opportunities.
*Heartland Housing has been given $250,000, pending financing, to create St. Anthony’s, a $12.6 million housing project that would convert a vacant five-story building at 10th and State Streets into 59 one-bedroom and efficiency apartments. The building would primarily serve low-income residents.
*The Milwaukee Neighborhood News Service has received $150,000 to advance its reporting of issues critical to urban neighborhoods.
*Aurora Zilber Family Hospice has been awarded $250,000 to train professional and volunteer hospice providers who will be available to serve patients and families at the Aurora zilber Family Hospice and in the Aurora Health Care system.
Each grant was confirmed at the Zilber Family Foundation’s August board meeting.
