Wisconsin added 47,600 jobs from August 2014 to August 2015, according to a report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
“Wisconsin’s economy continued to gain ground as our state outpaced over 40 states in its rate of private sector job creation in August, according to the federal government’s latest available data,” said Reggie Newson, secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. “Wisconsin continues to fare better the nation in both the state’s August unemployment rate of 4.5 percent and its labor force participation of 67.4 percent.”
The state’s unemployment rate has decreased from 5.3 percent in August 2014 to 4.5 percent in August 2015. The number of unemployed decreased over the past year from 165,000 to 137,000.
At the end of the first quarter, Wisconsin’s employment stood at $2.7 million, up 1.5 percent from March 2014. That puts Wisconsin at 26th among all the states in job creation during the year ended in March.
In August, Wisconsin added 7,200 private sector jobs, which put it at sixth place nationally for August job growth.
