The Southeast Wisconsin Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure recently teamed up with Menomonee Falls-based Kohl’s Department Stores to create an educational campaign to encourage women to open up the lines of communication on breast health. Kohl’s Conversations for the Cure targets women in Southeast Wisconsin and encourages them to get age appropriate breast health screenings and to talk to others about the importance of breast self awareness.
“In 2009, more than 1,300 women in Southeast Wisconsin were diagnosed with breast cancer; more than 280 of those women died,” said Sally Sheperdson, executive director of Komen Southeast Wisconsin Affiliate. “It’s important to educate women on getting regular breast screenings, such as a mammogram or clinical breast exam, and increase our survival rates in Southeast Wisconsin. Thanks to Kohl’s Department Stores we are able to address this issue head-on and get people talking about the importance of breast health with Kohl’s Conversations for the Cure.”
This year, Kohl’s committed to contributing $2 million over three years to the Komen Southeast Wisconsin Affiliate to help raise awareness about the importance of getting breast screenings and provide resources for Wisconsin women.
