Special Olympics Wisconsin recently hosted Over the Edge Milwaukee, a unique fundraising opportunity where participants were able to repel 20 stories down the side of the Hilton Milwaukee City Center in support of the organization.
“”We rely on fundraising opportunities and generous donations from the community to support the training and competition for Special Olympics athletes,” said Dennis Aldridge, president of Special Olympics Wisconsin. “We strive to offer unique fundraising opportunities like Over the Edge. It’s the first event of its kind in Wisconsin, and it allows us to offer participants an exclusive experience in exchange for their support of Special Olympics Wisconsin.”
Over the Edge Milwaukee was held earlier this week and had 60 participants in the event. Each participant was required to raise a minimum of $1500 in donations for the organization.
According to Brandon Tanner, regional director of operations for Special Olympics Wisconsin Greater Milwaukee area, the event raised over $40,000 for the organization.
“Special Olympics Wisconsin is an organization that provides year-round sports training, competition and equipment to nearly 10,000 athletes with cognitive disabilities in the state of Wisconsin,” Tanner said. “The money raised will go towards training, equipment and providing opportunities for local athletes to compete on a national level.”
Over the Edge is a Candadian-based organization that hosts fundraising events like this for nonprofits all over the United States and Canada. Special Olympics Wisconsin has proprietary rights to the Over the Edge fundraiser for the next three years in the state of Wisconsin. This year, Over the Edge for Special Olympics events were held in Madison and Milwaukee.
