Concordia teams up with Palermo’s to fight global hunger

Concordia University Wisconsin, Mequon has teamed up with Milwaukee-based Palermo’s Pizza to host a Feed My Starving Children event on Concordia campus today and Saturday, Sept. 25. During the two day event, 1600 volunteers will package more than 300,000 meals. This is the largest number of volunteers to ever participate in a single event on CUW’s campus. 
“Palermo’s President and CEO, Giacomo Fallucca and his wife Laurie, openly share how their Christian faith has driven their passion to address hunger issues and help severely malnourished children,” said Andrew G. Locke, director of major gifts at CUW. “Palermo’s and Concordia are a great fit and I’m glad we can serve as host for this event.” 
Volunteers will work two hour shifts packaging the nutritional meals called Mannapacks. Packaging will begin today at 9 a.m. and go until 9 p.m. On Saturday, meal packing will begin at 12 and go until 9:30 p.m.
Mannapacks are sealed bags of dry rice formula with the basic vitamins and minerals needed to restore the health of underfed children.  Feed My Starving Children is a Christian based international organization that provides Mannapacks to more than 70 countries.
“It has always been a Palermo’s family tradition to help children in need and together with the amazing support of the community we are committed to bringing proper nutrition to remote places on the planet,” said Laurie Fallucca, vice president of marketing for Palermo’s.
