Milwaukee-based Journey House, Inc., will host fifteen former Green Bay Packers and NFL celebrities at its “The Legend Continues” fundraiser event on Saturday, June 12 at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center, 325 W.Walnut St.
The players will be available to sign autographs and meet fans to help raise money for the installation of a synthetic turf football field in Milwaukee’s Mitchell Park. The effort is part of the Zilber Neighborhood Initiative’s revitalization plan for the Clarke Square neighborhood.
“Journey House’s Youth Football and Cheerleading program has almost 400 participants ranging in age from six to fourteen,” stated Charles Brown, Journey House Youth program director. “We teach these kids, many of whom are from the inner city that success is about more than just scoring touch downs and winning games. Character development and life skills are emphasized right alongside learning the plays. Having this home field will help build their sense of pride and belonging in the community.”
The turf for the field was donated by the Green Bay Packers and was previously located at the Ray Nitschke Practice Field, in Green Bay. The new field will serve as the home field for the Journey House Youth Football and Cheerleading League.
Former players who will be in attendance are former Packers Willie Buchanon, John Brockington, Marv Fleming, Johnnie Gray, Ezra Johnson, MacArthur Lane and Dave Robinson.
The public can attend the general autograph session and silent auction from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 12 for $50 or they can become a part of the Host Committee by making a tax-deductible donation of $500 to Journey House which gives them the opportunity to attend a private reception with the players from 3 to 4 p.m. and receive an autographed thank you gift.
Tickets are limited and advance registration is required. For more details, or to order tickets, visit www.journeyhouse.org.
