Wisconsin’s manufacturing sector added 11,786 jobs from June 2011 to June 2012, an increase of 2.6 percent, according to a state Department of Workforce Development report released Friday.
The DWD’s report includes the data it has submitted to the Bureau of Labor Statistics to be included on the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages. It is measured by Unemployment Insurance records submitted to the DWD from 96 percent of Wisconsin businesses.
Overall, Wisconsin added 35,379 private sector jobs from June 2011 to June 2012.
Manufacturing sector employment showed the highest growth aside from “unclassified,” which grew 31.3 percent and natural resources and mining, which was up 7.2 percent year over year. Trade, transportation and utilities was tied at 2.6 percent growth.
Some sectors did not fare well. Construction and information both declined by -0.3 percent. Financial activities was down -0.1 percent.
Also, wages paid by covered employers increased 2.7 percent over last year overall. Private ownership wages rose 3.9 percent, while government wages declined 3.3 percent.
