Helen Bader Foundation Inc., a Milwaukee-based philanthropic organization dedicated to youth, aging and workforce development for-at risk community members, has awarded 20 workforce development organizations throughout greater Milwaukee a total of $855,000, the foundation announced Wednesday.
Fifteen of the organizations benefitting from the latest round of funding serve adults with disabilities, adults with vision impairments and low-income, unemployed minority populations.
“We all know that people are unemployed, but the system treats unemployment as a one-size-fits all situation and that’s not the reality of it,” said Jerry Roberts, program officer and manager of the foundation’s workforce development efforts. “We need to address the many, many barriers to employment in our community in order to fully address the unemployment situation as a whole.”
Grant recipients include United Cerebral Palsy of Southeastern Wisconsin, Wiscraft Inc., African American Chamber of Commerce Inc., Enrichment Opportunities Institute of Training Inc., Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin Inc., Groundwork Milwaukee Inc., Operation DREAM Inc., Heartlove Place Inc., House of Peace, Interfaith Older Adult Programs Inc., Local Initiatives Support Corporation and Milwaukee Achiever Literacy Services Inc.
