Sharp Literacy, Inc. appoints new executive director

Sharp Literacy, Inc. has appointed Lynda Kohler as its new executive director, according to an announcement the Milwaukee-based, education-driven organization made Wednesday.

Kohler will take over for Founder and Executive Director Marlene Doerr Kreilkamp, who is retiring after 16 years of building and growing the nonprofit.

Under Doerr Kreilkamp’s leadership, Sharp Literacy, Inc. has impacted more than 70,000 at-risk Milwaukee students through educational program merging visual arts with science, math, historical and ecological concepts students learn in school.

Kohler will start her new position Nov. 1.

“We are delighted to welcome Lynda Kohler to the Sharp family,” said Sharp Literacy Board Chairman Joel Huffman. “We had hundreds of applicants for this position, as you might imagine, but Lynda stood out as the most qualified candidate with the right balance of leadership and fiscal management expertise, as well as compassion, from her previous work experience.”

Kohler comes to Sharp Literacy, Inc. with nonprofit leadership experience from the Ronald McDonald House Charities where she has served as president since 2009. Before her work in the nonprofit sector, she spent 24 years with Midwest Airlines in multiple positions, most recently fulfilling the role of national director of Airline Partner Services.
