Target Corp. awarded two K4-fifth grade schools in the Milwaukee Public School system with $25,000 grants through its $5 million Give With Target campaign, according to an announcement released Friday, Aug. 17.
Brown Street Academy, on Milwaukee’s north side, and Lowell School, on the far south side, received the grants along with 98 other schools across the country. All selected schools have made notable academic strides despite facing significant poverty rates.
The 100 Target grants, amounting to $2.5 million of the Give With Target campaign, can be spent at each recipient school’s discretion so long as the funds help improve student learning.
“We’re so pleased with the increasing commitment Target has shown to Milwaukee Public Schools,” said MPS Superintendent Gregory Thornton.
The remaining $2.5 million in Target’s Give With Target campaign will be distributed among schools as gift cards according to votes schools accumulate from their supporters. For more information about the campaign voting program, visit http://apps.facebook.com/givewithtarget/.
The campaign falls under Target’s effort to contribute $1 billion to education by 2015.
