Racine-based home cleaning product manufacturer SC Johnson will build two wind turbines at its largest production facility, Waxdale in Mount Pleasant.
Windex, Glade, Pledge, Raid and Scrubbing Bubbles products are made at the Waxdale plant, which is the size of 36 football fields.
SC Johnson has received approval to begin construction of the turbines, which are expected to be up and running by the end of the year. They will generate about 8 million KWH of electricity and reduce the facility’s emissions by 6,000 metric tons per year.
The company also has wind turbines at three other facilities, including three SWIFT mini-wind turbines at its Racine corporate headquarters. SC Johnson was recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its voluntary green power efforts last year.
