The Milwaukee County Board’s Transportation, Public Works & Transit Committee this morning approved a resolution to move forward with the proposed southbound extension of the Lake Parkway (Highway 794) to Highway 100 in Oak Creek.
The plan was sponsored by Supervisors Patricia Jursik and Steve Taylor. Taylor was recently elected to represent the Oak Creek and Franklin area.
The Resolution calls for the project to be added to the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission Transportation Plan.
“Adding this project to SEWRPC’s regional transportation system plan is a key step in making this project eligible for federal funds,” Jursik said. “Oak Creek and the entire South Shore are providing much of the county’s economic growth, and extending the Lake Parkway will help us keep that momentum going.”
Upon addition of the Lake Parkway extension to the regional transportation system plan, the resolution requests that Wisconsin Department of Transportation conduct the necessary preliminary engineering and environmental impact studies for the extension of 794.
“My constituents overwhelmingly support extending this key transportation corridor further south into Oak Creek,” Taylor said. “I am pleased to co-sponsor Supervisor Jursik’s resolution for the economic benefit of southern Milwaukee County.”
