Power at the port

Construction was completed recently for the City of Milwaukee’s wind turbine, located next to the Port of Milwaukee’s administration building at 2323 S. Lincoln Memorial Drive. The turbine will provide power for the Port of Milwaukee building and the city says it is expected to provide 110 to 150 percent of the building’s energy needs. The project was estimated to cost between $550,000 and $600,000. The city received $400,000 in federal funds to build the wind turbine. The remainder of the cost is covered by incentives and grants from We Energies and Focus on Energy. The tower for the turbine is 120 feet tall and the height to the highest extension of the blade is 154 feet. The average wind speed at the site is 11.4 mph at 120 feet off the ground.
