Gov. Scott Walker yesterday signed Senate Bill 333 into law. The bill provides for a Transitional Jobs Program that would bolster resources for job seekers in areas with high unemployment and child poverty rates.
The Wisconsin Department of Children and Families will administer the program, which is part of the governor’s Worker Training Initiative, with existing funds.
“This legislation is a great step in the development of Wisconsin’s workforce,” Walker said. “This allows us to provide workers with the necessary training they need to succeed and help employers hire workers that want to contribute, putting both employers and employees at a great advantage.”
The existing Transform Milwaukee Jobs Program, which increases young adults’ and low-income parents’ job access, will be expanded to provide more job opportunities and placements for qualified applicants. Program participants can also get skills training to secure a long-term position.
Available funding will determine how many communities benefit from the legislation.
