AT&T upgrades cell phone service in central Wisconsin

AT&T Wisconsin today announced the availability of its mobile Internet network along the Interstate 39 and Highway 151 corridors from Madison to Stevens Point and Fond du Lac.

The upgrades include the communities of Portage, Beaver Dam, Columbus, Westfield, Plainfield, Hancock, Plover and Waupun.

The construction of 11 new cell sites and upgrades of 23 existing sites extends access for advanced mobile services, devices and feature-rich audio and video content to customers in the area.

AT&T invested nearly $725 million in its Wisconsin wireless and wireline networks from 2010 through 2012, with a focus on improving the company’s mobile broadband coverage and overall performance of its networks.

“AT&T has made it a priority to invest in these critical travel routes and communities in Wisconsin because it is important for our customers to have access to the wireless technology they need to run their business or stay in touch with friends and family,” said Scott VanderSanden, AT&T Wisconsin president. “This additional investment in these southcentral Wisconsin areas will further our efforts to bring consumers the state of the art IP based broadband technology that they demand.”
