Brookfield Chamber program to focus on health care reform

The Greater Brookfield Chamber of Commerce will present a second program on health care reform on Wednesday, April 24, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Ottawa University, 245 S Executive Drive.

The theme of the program will be: “Health Care Reform – How Does It Affect Your Business?”

The additional program, requested by the members of the chamber and the business community, will focus on smaller businesses.

Carol White, president of chamber, said, “All businesses are affected in some way by this legislation. As a regional organization that represents the interests of business, we feel that it is necessary to respond to our members’ requests to provide a second program for the members who were unable to attend the first workshop. This will bring them up-to-speed on the implications of the Affordable Care Act. While this is still a developing piece of legislation, there will be dates for businesses to adhere to in the near future. We are providing this program to share what we know at this point, and we will continue to keep our members informed as other deadlines approach.”

Presenters at this program are Bob Suycott, president of Tailor Made Benefit Solutions, speaking on the health care and benefits pieces of the program; and Liz Kaiser, shareholder at Winter, Kloman, Moter & Repp, S.C., speaking on the tax implications of the program.

Suycott said, “Each day we learn a little bit more about the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), and how we will all be affected by it. The cost side of the equation, especially for smaller, healthier groups, needs to be better understood by individuals and small business owners. There are some short-term options available for businesses. Our presentation will focus on the various aspects of the law and how it will impact you. We’ll discuss what to expect and some ways that you may be able to avoid some of the provisions of the law. You’ll also learn what your responsibilities are.”

Kaiser said, “There are many uncertainties related to the Affordable Care Act, and many small businesses (those with less than 50 employees) believe they are not impacted by this law; but there are portions of the law that will impact all businesses – large or small. We hope to provide information to employers as to what may or may not impact them.”

The fee to attend will be $10 for chamber members and $25 for general admission. For more information, phone (262) 786-1886.
