University of Wisconsin System President Kevin Reilly announced four finalists for the position of chancellor at the UW-Madison.
A 25-member search and screen committee, chaired by professor David McDonald of UW-Madison’s History Department, recommended the slate of finalists to Reilly and a special committee of the UW System Board of Regents chaired by Regent Charles Pruitt of Milwaukee.
The finalists are: Rebecca Blank, acting secretary of commerce, U.S. Department of Commerce, Washington, D.C.; Nicholas Jones, the Benjamin T. Rome Dean of the Whiting School of Engineering, The Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Md.; Michael Schill, dean and Harry N. Wyatt professor of law and professor in the College University of Chicago Law School, Chicago, Ill.; and Kim Wilcox, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Michigan State University, East Lansing, Mich.
The four candidates will participate in a series of public forums between March 5 and March 13, offering opportunities for faculty, staff, students, and community members to interact directly with the finalists. Reilly and the special Regent committee will interview the finalists on March 15. Along with Regent Pruitt, committee members include Regent Regina Millner of Madison, Regent President Brent Smith of La Crosse, Regent David Walsh of Madison, and Student Regent Katherine Pointer of UW-Madison. They will recommend one candidate to the full Board of Regents, which must approve the appointment. The person selected through the process will succeed UW-Madison Interim Chancellor David Ward, who has served since July 2011.
