Driver to appear at December Newsmaker Luncheon

Following her first few months on the job as Milwaukee Public Schools superintendent, Darienne Driver, Ph.D., will be the featured guest of a Milwaukee Press Club Newsmaker Luncheon on Dec. 17.

Driver was named permanent superintendent Oct. 1, after taking over as acting superintendent in July as Gregory Thornton, Ph.D., left the district to lead Baltimore City Public Schools.

Driver has been with MPS since July 2012, when she was hired as the district’s first chief innovation officer. She previously was deputy chief of empowerment schools for the School District of Philadelphia.

During the Newsmaker Luncheon, a panel of area journalists will interview Driver. The event, part of a series conducted by the press club, will run from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Newsroom Pub, 137 E. Wells St. in downtown Milwaukee. The luncheon is open to the public. Cost is $18 for press club members, $23 for non-members and $13 for students.

Seating is limited, and advanced registration is required. For more information, visit www.milwaukeepressclub.org.
