The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development announced that the preliminary seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 5.5 percent in September, down from 5.7 percent in August and at its lowest since October 2008.
Wisconsin’s unemployment rate remains below the national unemployment rate of 5.9 percent.
The state gained 8,400 private sector jobs from August to September, on a seasonally adjusted, preliminary basis, according to the DWD. Over the past 12 months, Wisconsin gained 37,400 jobs.
The new numbers are based on preliminary estimates released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
“The state’s unemployment rate has reached a new post-Recession low at 5.5 percent, and the latest estimates show the private sector created 8,400 jobs over the month,” said Reggie Newson, secretary of the DWD. “These and other indicators show Wisconsin’s economy is growing stronger, which is great news for job creators and working families.”
