International scientific health care conference coming to Milwaukee

Milwaukee will welcome 1,500 health care professionals from across the globe and reap an estimated $3.2 million next week while hosting a major international convention of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis.

The convention, in its 60th year, will run June 23-26 and will focus on research and treatment of bleeding disorders, heart attacks, strokes and thrombosis. Top clinicians, researchers, educators, health care workers and industry partners from more than 60 countries will attend and present their research findings.

“The ISTH conference is the foremost scientific meeting of physicians and scientists to exchange the latest in scientific innovation and advance the overall understanding, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of thrombotic and bleeding disorders,” said Dr. Robert Montgomery, president of this year’s conference.

Montgomery is also senior investigator at BloodCenter of Wisconsin’s Blood Research Institute and professor of pediatric hematology at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

According to Montgomery, Milwaukee was selected as the 2014 host for the quality of the city’s scientific and research community at BloodCenter of Wisconsin and the Medical College of Wisconsin. The selection was made four years ago.
