Advisology to coach financial professionals in social media

With an aim to teach financial advisors, managers, executives and planners how to leverage social media to grow their potential client base, Advisology has launched in Milwaukee.

The consulting business, conceived and managed by business partners Katie Jansen and Phil Gerbyshak, tailors effective social media strategies directly toward the needs of the financial sector.

“Social media has changed the way people communicate – it can’t help but change business relationships as well,” said Gerbyshak, vice president of sales and marketing at Advisology. “In a relationship-driven industry like financial services, you need to be where your customers are, and it’s on social media.”

“We teach (clients) the science of integrating a traditional sales model with innovative digital and social selling strategies,” said Jansen, founder and president of Advisology. “By researching potential clients on social media, advisors can turn cold calls into ‘warm’ calls. And, if they know how to use it properly, they can increase the number of new opportunities and grow revenue.”

Advisology’s menu of services includes initial trainings and ongoing coaching. The company also offers products and services related to recruiting, social recruiting training, and training in writing online profiles for social media outlets like LinkedIn.

While some financial professionals may hesitate to use social media since their industry is heavily regulated, according to Jansen and Gerbyshak, their expertise in social media and financial services can help guide clients through concerns.

Both Jansen and Gerbyshak have worked at large financial services organizations, and both have extensive experience applying social media to businesses. Prior to launching Advisology, Gerbyshak operated the social media training company Milwaukee Social Media. He has since sold that company.

“Many people who perform social media training may not understand the very specific compliance requirements of financial services organizations and its client-centric approach,” Jansen said. “Phil and I both have been licensed and have held leadership positions at financial institutions for more than a decade apiece. We understand the guardrails (and) we know how to get results and how to achieve them in a compliant manner.”
