Summerfest supports music education

Milwaukee World Festival, Inc., recently announced the formation of a new program called “Summerfest Supports Music Education.” The two-part program was designed to offer high schools in the Milwaukee area the opportunity to reward music students with tickets to attend Summerfest this year, and also to showcase talented high school musicians from throughout the state.

Any high school (grades 9-12, public or private) in the seven-county Metro Milwaukee Area (Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, Waukesha, Walworth, Ozaukee, Washington) is eligible to request Summerfest tickets for its music students. School principals or administrators can log on to www.Summerfest.com/sfsupportsmusiced to sign their schools up to receive up to 100 complimentary weekday (12 noon – 4 p.m.) admission tickets. These tickets can be distributed as each administrator chooses within the school’s music education programs. All ticket requests must be submitted online by Friday, May 22.

Summerfest has also teamed up with Launchpad, a statewide music competition for Wisconsin high school students who are in bands formed outside the traditional music classroom ensembles. Launchpad is presented by the Wisconsin School Music Association and produced by Dennis Graham Associates. Summerfest will offer the top 12 bands that compete in the Launchpad Competition the opportunity to perform at the Summerfest 2009 Launchpad Battle of the Bands Showcase.
