Sheboygan-based 3 Sheeps Brewing Co. is leasing the former Coca-Cola Distribution Plant and expanding its operations.
The new location at 1837 North Ave. in Sheboygan, includes two buildings totaling 40,000 square feet on 3.4 acres, which will allow the brewery to increase production, expand distribution, feature experimental beers and better connect with the craft beer community, said 3 Sheeps Brewing Co. Founder & Brewmaster Grant Pauly.
The brewery is currently housed within the historic Wigwam building located on Huron Avenue in Sheboygan.
“This expansion allows us to grow the business and meet our current demands while creating a destination for beer enthusiasts to enjoy our distinctive beers,” Pauly said. “We have been pushing the limit of our capacity in our current facility.”
To meet these demands, the new site will house new equipment for both brewing and bottling. Production capabilities will increase from 28 barrels to 200 barrels per day, requiring a substantial increase in workforce, Pauly said.
The proposed expansion plan will create at least fifteen jobs in the community more than tripling their staff over the next three years.
Renovation of the property will begin in December 2015, with plans to open in early 2016. The facility will be divided between the two buildings on the property.
The larger of the two buildings will house the newly acquired brewhouse, as well as tanks, packaging equipment and offices. The second building will be transformed into the barrel aging warehouse and taproom.
The increased size will allow the brewery to place an emphasis on their barrel aging program and create an isolated area for the controlled fermentation of the sour beers – a new venture for the brewery.
The brewery will also open its first taproom, offering year-round, limited release and experimental beers. Customers will be able to purchase beer in to-go growlers and bottles.
Currently, the brewery distributes to cities throughout Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota. The new location will make it possible for 3 Sheeps to expand distribution into new markets in coming years, Pauly said.
This project is in partnership with the City of Sheboygan, Investors Community Bank of Manitowoc, Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation, Sheboygan Redevelopment Authority and the Small Business Administration.
