Top gymnasts from around the globe will convene in Milwaukee next year to participate in the 2020 American Cup at Fiserv Forum.
The annual international gymnastics meet is set for March 7, 2020, with 13 women competing at 11 a.m. and 13 men at 4 p.m. It is the first of four all-around events of the International Gymnastics Federation’s World Cup Series, which is part of Olympic qualification for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
The American Cup will follow the Nastia Liukin Cup on March 6, which includes 36 female Junior Olympic gymnasts from across the country.
“Because this year’s American Cup is part of qualifying for the Games, we anticipate having one of the strongest fields in the event’s history,” said Li Li Leung, president and CEO of USA Gymnastics. “We hope Olympic, general sports and gymnastics fans alike will come to Fiserv Forum to support the USA’s top gymnasts when they take on the world on March 7. The Nastia Liukin Cup, held the night before, is a special event for 36 Junior Olympic gymnasts and is a chance to see some of the country’s rising stars.”
Ticket packages for both the American Cup and the Nastia Liukin Cup range in price from $77 to $179 and can be purchased through Fiserv Forum’s website.
Invitations to compete in the 2020 American Cup will be based on performances at the 2019 World Gymnastics Championships.
This will be the first time the American Cup’s first is held in Milwaukee, but the city has played host to other major gymnastic events including the 2017 USA Gymnastics Championships, 2003 U.S. Gymnastics Championships and 2016 Tour of Gymnastics Champions.
In addition, the area has produced its share of championship gymnasts. In 2004, Waukesha-native Paul Hamm won the all-around American Cup title and went on to claim the 2004 Olympic all-around gold. Chellsie Memmel, who now lives in Dousman, won the uneven bars title at the American Cup and went on to become the 2005 World all-around champion, as well as earn the 2008 Olympic team silver medal.

This is a great opportunity to see many of the gymnasts who may be participating in the 2020 Tokyo Games later on in the summer.”
Other recent American Cup host sites include Newark, New Jersey; Arlington, Texas; Greensboro, North Carolina; and Worcester, Massachusetts.
